Zusammenfassung: Cefalonia Island is exposed to the tectonically highly active Hellenic Arc System in the Eastern Ionian Sea. Both lateral and vertical aseismic and coseismic movements are known from this region. Geo-scientific studies were carried out in the Livadi coastal plain and along the inner Gulf of Argostoli. Terrestrial vibracoring allowed to obtain local stratigraphies. Geomorphological, sedimentological and geochemical methods are used to reconstruct relative local sea level changes since the mid-Holocene. Sedimentary evidence of strong tsunami impact was found in the Livadi coastal plain such as sand sheets intersecting paralic swamp deposits.Preliminary results help to better understand Holocene paleogeographies of the Livadi coastal area and, for the first time, describe the tsunamigenic influence on the coastal evolution. Local stratigraphies revealed multiple high-energy tsunami impact on the study area. We assume that the relative sea level has never been higher than at present. Our results go hand in hand with results from studies in nearby coastal Akarnania and the western Peloponnese.
