The article describes three approaches to the development of ICZM indicators: indicators for an ICZM in the Oder estuary region, the IOC ICZM indicator initiative, the indicator initiative of the EU Working Group on Indicators and Data. For each approach the background of the development and the structure of the indicator lists are summarised. A comparative analysis of the three approaches shows differences and similarities. Furthermore the specific benefits of the regional approach are presented.
