YOUMARES is the name for the international conference of young marine
researchers and engineers organized by the study group of the German
Society for
Marine Research (DGM). This event addresses all young marine scientists
and engineers from all disciplines of fundamental and applied research,
industry and other relevant fields coming from Germany and the rest of the
world. In 2012 YOUMARES will continue its success story in the third year.
The 2012 slogan is:
"Between space and seafloor - aqua vita est"
YOUMARES 3.0 takes place from 12.-14. September 2012 in Luebeck, Germany.

Youmares AWARD 2012 call for applications
1. Abstract submission is possible from now on
We invite all interested students and colleagues to submit their abstract
to one of the following theme sessions:
Aliens from inner space: Where do they come from, what do they do and
how can we stop them?
Between Sea and Anthroposphere: Marine socio-economics in an era of
global change
Environmental changes in the pelagic: consequences and acclimatization
strategies - from plankton to fish
Integrated Aquaculture - Polyculture of plants, invertebrates and
finfish
Ocean Modelling: Theory & Concepts
Physical Oceanography - Between Measuring and Modelling
Reefs from shallow to deep - environmental constraints and perspectives
The aquatic climate archive: tracking the rise and fall of ancient
civilizations. Lessons from the past, for the present and the future?
Water resources in coastal areas - scarcity and management implications
Please prepare your abstract for submission to one of these theme sessions
following these guidelines and send it to abstract@youmares.net
The members of the Young Science Committee (YSC) will assess the quality
of submitted abstracts and will select oral and poster presentations for
Youmares 3 based on objective criteria.
The decision for oral presentations and a first round of poster
presentations will be made until 1st May. The final submission deadline
for poster
presentations is 15th July.

Please follow these steps to register for the conference:
Register (name, username, email, password) to our website/booking
system (click here). Please take note of our Terms and Conditions.
Return to the registration website
Choose the right registration rate for you (normal or reduced)
Fill in all the specified details and click "BOOK"
Transfer the registration rate to the following bank account.
Registration Fees:
Previliged registration before 15th August includes: icebreaker, coffee
breaks, extended conference proceedings, conference bag with give-aways.
Later
registration will be possible, but the full range of aformentioned
services cannot be guaranteed.
50 Euro PhD students, PostDocs and other employed participants
30 Euro Regular students and unemployed participants
Deductions:
50 % for DGM-Members
20 % for members of other partner organizations
Free trial membership in the DGM for one year for newbies only
3. A special venue for a special event!
Youmares 3 is organized in close cooperation with EMB Fraunhofer Research
Institution for Marine Biotechnology and its local head Prof. Dr. Charli
Kruse. The Institute concentrates on fields of cellular technology,
aquatic biotechnology and cell-based medical techniques.
We have been looking hard for a decent venue to host this special event
and WE HAVE FOUND IT!
The Hanseatic City of Luebeck is, situated at the river Trave, Germany's
gate to the Baltic. The Brick Stone Gothic gives the Queen of the Hanse a
unique flair of maritime modernity with historical memory. Niederegger
Marzipan is probably as well known as Thomas Mann's first novel
"Buddenbrooks".
In 2012 Luebeck is celebrating having been elected as the German "City of

The conference venue will be "Die Gemeinnuetzige" in down-town Luebeck.
Plenty of accomodation and culinary opportunites in close proximity.

5. Youmares Award 2012
In 2012 the German Society for Marine Research (DGM) will bestow for the
second time the YOUMARES AWARD which is addressed to students of all
disciplines of marine research as well as high school seniors.
Eligible for the prize will be exceptional student papers that are
generally intelligible, written in German or English, have a length of
about 5,000
words (plus references), and may be based on an individual or a group effort.
The AWARD consists of a travelling trophy, gratuitous conference
participation, and material prizes of a value of about 1,500 Euros. The
three best
papers will be published in the printed newsletter of the German Society
for Marine Research (DGM-Mitteilungen) as well as online.
