Datum: 15. - 17. Januar 2018
Webseite: http://www.safari2.org.in/index.htm
Ort: Kochi, INDIA
Beschreibung:

The first International symposium of SAFARI (Societal Applications in Fisheries and Aquaculture using Remote Sensing Imagery) was held in Kochi during February 2010 and was organized by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, one of the seven fisheries Institutes of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The first international symposium to bring together the scientific communities working on various aspects of fisheries and remote sensing, the first SAFARI symposium attracted more than 150 participants. It led to a special issue of the ICES Journal of Marine Science. SAFARI was recognized early as an activity of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and is now embedded in its “Ocean and Society: Blue Planet” initiative.

As part of the celebrations of its 70th Anniversary, the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research is planning to host the Second SAFARI Symposium in January 2018. The symposium will be devoted to Remote Sensing for Ecosystem Analysis and Fisheries, and is open to contributions on various applications of remote sensing for freshwater, estuarine and marine fisheries and related topics such as the ecology of commercial fishes and ecosystem-based management.

The organisers plan to set up a permanent SAFARI Secretariat to serve the community on a regular basis. The terms of reference for the activities of the Secretariat will be established at SAFARI-2.

The Symposium and follow-up actions will contribute to the Oceans and Society: Blue Planet initiative of GEO.
