Ort: Brussels, BELGIUM
Beschreibung:

As already expressed in its 2015 Statement for Oceans and Climate, the Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas Intergroup of the European Parliament fully endorses the statement of the Our Ocean Conference that “all of us depend on the ocean: for our water, our food, our climate and our air”.

Our action has indeed left our ocean “heavily affected by pollution, overexploitation, coastal degradation and global warming. This has severe consequences for all.”

In this Context, the EU had the honour to host the Our Ocean Conference in Malta on 5-6 October 2017. It offered a great opportunity to showcase commitments illustrating the leading role Europe plays in achieving maritime sustainable development.

The Intergroup do believe that a new vision is needed, along with strong and action-oriented commitments.

Therefore, the Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas Intergroup of the European Parliament would like to seize this great opportunity to organise a post OOC17 conference in Brussels in January. It would be the occasion to present the results of the OOC17 while reflecting upon the potential next steps for action.
