8th European Pond Conservation Network Workshop (EPCN)

Datum: 21. - 25. Mai 2018
Webseite: http://epcn8.org/
Ort: Torroella de Montgrí, SPAIN
Beschreibung: Lagoons and ponds are largely recognized as biodiversity hotspots. Its relevance is not only because of its conservation value, but also because it supply key ecosystem services contributing, for example, to carbon sink and nutrient balance and, in the case of coastal lagoons, preventing from negative effects of sea rise and sea storms. Despite its relevance, these water bodies are especially affected by global change since human activities caused the reduction or even the disappearance of most of these habitats. Therefore, strong efforts should be done to protect them and to recover the ecological functioning of these threatened habitats. We invite you to attend the 8th European Pond Conservation Network Workshop where we will discuss about their ecosystem functioning and services. The topics treated will include from their response to global change to the identification of key factors ruling its biodiversity, from both, and ecological and conservation point of view. The meeting will coincide with the closing meeting of the Life Pletera project, in where a special session about management and restoration of coastal lagoons will be done.
