The purpose of the Congress is to bring together scientists working on issues within the field of natural science related to the Baltic Sea Region to present the most recent research and to discuss status, trends and the future of the Baltic Sea as well as future research needs. The specific focus is on the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustaineble Development. The Baltic Sea Science Congress 2023 is a part of the Finnish National Implementation Plan for the UN Decade of Ocean Science.
The main topic of this congress will be the guidelines of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development in such a way that
- it highlights the role of research in promoting the use and protection of the seas in accordance with sustainable development,
- strengthens the dialogue between researchers and society, and
- acts as a contribution to the Baltic Sea region in the global process.
